Denmark Capital
I would like to start this review of Denmark on Denmark capital, Copenhagen. The capital of Denmark offers some of the best tourism that a traveler could ask for with a small tight knit Denmark population. Did you know that Denmark was ranked the happiest country in the world? Well it is true and it shows throughout the country. This is largely due in part to the overall wealth of the country and the society’s high quality of living. On your vacation, you should see most of the capital within four days. This will give you plenty of time to tour because the size of the city is not that large.
Welcome To Denmark
For those of you who like to party, the capital also offer literally 24hrs of partying on the weekends. Now that you know a little about the capital, let us look at accommodations and options you could look at that will help you travel Europe cheap.
Denmark Accomodation
If you plan to camp in Denmark, you are in luck. Denmark offers countless amounts of campgrounds that are located throughout the country. If you plan to camp, you could expect to pay 50-70 Danish Krona for your stay. If you plan to frequently, camp throughout the year in Denmark a special pass is offered at some campgrounds that will allow you to camp throughout the season for 80-85 Danish Krona. Staying in a hostel is one of the standard options that are recommended if you plan to stay in any European country. Denmark offers over 100 hostels that are equipped with many different types of rooms. The cost for a hostel can range from 110-475 Danish Krona depending on what type of room you like. I want to point out that blankets and pillows are provided but not sheets. I brought my own sheets from home but if you do not want, you could rent them for a fee of 50 Danish Krona. If you plan to travel Europe for an extended period I recommend purchasing an International hostel card which will cost around 150-160 Danish Krona. If you plan to stay in a hotel, you can expect the price to be high but an all you can eat breakfast is included in the price. Be sure to be on the lookout for the word “Kros” which is close to the meaning, country inn. These are Danish style motels.
Getting Around
Denmark capital has many transportation options. There are many ways to get around the country and here I will list a couple.
Bus
A majority of the large cities and towns do have a bus transit system and many have buses that travel regionally. There are also long distance buses, which travel mainly from the city of Copenhagen. Traveling on buses could save you up to 25% versus riding on trains.
Cars
Believe it or not, you do not need to have an international driver’s license if you plan to rent a car in Denmark but, getting an international driver’s license would be a good idea just in case. When you go to rent a car, you will be required to have a valid passport. You could expect the cheapest cars to rent to cost 650 Danish Crona and this cost includes taxes and unlimited mileage for one day. To save money and if you plan to drive frequently in Denmark, it is recommended that you reserve a multiday rental which will cost 450 Danish Crona.
Train
The Denmark’s train system is an excellent way to get around. Most of the trains do run throughout the country. If you plan on traveling long distances, you will have two options. The first is an intercity train that costs 20 Danish Crona and you need to have a reservation. The second option is an inter-regional train that makes many stops and is slower than the intercity train but you do not need a reservation. Traveling by train in Denmark is cheap compared to many other European countries because the country is not that big and you will travel shorter distances.
Bicycles
By far the cheapest means of getting around Denmark is renting a bicycle. You can expect to pay around 70 Danish Crona a day and you will have to put down a deposit. Bikes can be carried on trains and ferries’ which makes riding that much more convenient.
Sights To See
Denmark capital, Copenhagen, offers a lot of site’s to see for tourist and most sites are free for tourists but, there are a few that are a must see. Here are some of the countries’ favorite tourist destinations.
National Museum: Here you will find the history of Denmark and a large collection of artifacts dating back thousands of years. Admission is free and the museum is open from 10AM-5PM Tuesday-Sunday.
Staten’s Museum for Kunst: This museum stores many artworks from Danish artist dating back hundreds of years. In addition, you will find artwork from some of the world’s most renowned artist such as Picasso. Admission is free and the museum is open from 10AM-5PM Tuesday and Thursday-Sunday.
Denmark Activities
Traveling to Denmark especially Denmark capital is an exciting adventure. If you enjoy participating in activities then Denmark will not disappoint you. A popular activity that most like to participate in is cycling. Denmark offers thousands of cycling routes for you to enjoy. I recommend traveling along the coast as you will see scene’s that will astound you. If you are lucky, you may be able to find a farmer who will let you put up a tent for a 15 Danish Krona. Of course, the coastline of Denmark offers an abundance of activities to participate in such as kit surfing and windsurfing. If you want the best coastal activities, I recommend you travel along the northern coast of Zealand.
Business Hours
Normally, many travelers are unaware of when businesses close at their travel destination and I have frequently had to learn the hard way of going to the store and seeing it being closed especially in Denmark capital. In Denmark, banks and normal businesses are open from 9AM-4PM Monday to Friday. Shops are a little different as they are open from 1030AM to 5PM Monday to Friday.
