Greece
Ahtens Greece is one of my favorite spot's to visit. It make's for a great vacation while learning about some very important history. But, I am here to save you money and give you tips on logding, cuisine, and transportation so, lets begin...
Arriving in Greece
So you arrive at Athens International Airport. What next? Well after gathering your bags, I recommend finging some transportation in order to get to your hotel. Taxi's and buses do run through the airport for most of the time and if you give
them an adress, they will get you there. But just make sure, as I warn throughout the site, beware of taxi cab drivers and use this mode of transportation as a last resort. To save yourself the pain of finding transportation to your destination, and believe me it's a PAIN, I recommend calling your hotel before you arrive in Athens and see if they provide shuttle services to the hotel. Most of them do and it's a cheaper garunteed route to take. The airport is not too far away from downtown athens 20 to 25 minutes depending on what mode of transportation you take. The buses are pretty cheap and run fairly late. A ticket for me ran about 3 euro and lasted me all day. But I recommend traveling in the city by foot because you will miss alot of what Athens has to offer. Like the marble sidewalks. Take a look at
Greece's climate
to make sure your dressed for your travels.

(Note: Be carefull walking on these sidewalks when it rains, they are slick and you could end up on your butt like I did:)
Hotels can be found throughout Athens. The important point I learned is the closer to the historical landmarks, the more the cost (this is the same as any other place). I stayed at a hotel which is shown above. It was nice and had all the amenities to make living comfortable but, I'd recommend staying at a holiday inn, or named brand hotel companies in your travelgreece. I say this because many of the amenities your accustomed to in the U.S. are going to be provided. But if you want the travel greece experience, then go to a Greek hotel. I'm not going to go into great detail on where to find these spots because a simple search of the web and you got all the info you need. But, what I am going to say is that 90% of the time, the cheaper route are hotels located within the city but are not well advertised. Which is how I found the hotel I stayed at. Although you do loose some amenities and services, all in all, it's not much. My hotel room was a DECENT size and the the elevator could only fit two people. Also, it took some time to see the sites, and alot of walking but hey, your on vacation, go explore. It sounds crazy but I went to some off the wall places and found the best spots.
Here the fun part. Site's to see but I like to call it, "site's to savings". Pretty much, I went to alot, and I mean ALOT, of landmarks in Greece particulary Athens and found the cheapest ways to get there and the cheapest ways to see the site's. The cost to see the Acropolis is 12 euro and this give's you an all day pass. The walk to get to the Acropolis is pretty long. I recommend taking the trolly service that buses you to the top if your not up for the hike. I payed 5 euro for a up and down trip. The Acropolis is open 8:30AM to 6:00PM although I remember leaving at 7:00PM. Another place I recommend is the Temple of Poseidon which is on the coast of Athens. Depending on how far away you are, I recommend you add this to your list of site's. The cost to enter is 4 euro and last all day.
When in Greece, you could find the best bulkan kitchens. What does this mean? It's of mix of bulgarian, turkish, romanian, and greek food. Alot of cuisines at resturaunts use fresh vegetables which leads to delicious foods. A key note I learned is in the summer, you will find alot of resident greeks eating salads, fruits, and hardly any meat. This is because they believe when it get's hot, you don't feel like eating heavy food's and they opt for the lighter food groups. Another word of wisdom, if your looking to find some fast food establishments like McDonalds, Burgerking, etc, your going to be suprised - they don't have many. Mainly, to find these fast food resturaunts, you have to drive througout the cities to find them. And they're not easy to find. But, if its any help to you. Starbuck can be found througout the city without looking hard. And the coffee is amazing:)
To sum it all up, Greece is a great place to travel and I recommend anyone planning to travel to Europe go to Athens. My total trip cost was only 120 Euro for two days. I recommend if you go, to stay a bit longer and see many more of the wonderful sites that Athens Greece has to offer.
