Netherlands Tourism

When you think of Netherlands tourism, the number one thing that comes to mind is Amsterdam. In addition, this is for good reason as the Dutch capital is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. However, what people don’t know is, the Netherlands has a lot more to offer the tourist from the Anne Franke house to the modern river that runs through the country, the Netherlands is defiantly a tourists delight that has more to offer than what meets the eye.

Welcome To The Netherlands

One of the most interesting things you will see while in the Netherlands is the amount of people riding bicycles. The reason for this is the Dutch people are very eco-friendly people and very efficient as well. There take on life is why drive when you can ride. The best time to go to the Netherlands is on the warmest months from June to September. If you prefer to travel during the rainy season, the times that you may want to consider are from the months of July and August as they are wettest months. If you choose to travel during the warmer months, you will get to see some of the Netherlands most beautiful native flowers such as the daffodils. June to August is the high tourist season and offers the most amount of Amsterdam packages as well.

Foods and Where to Eat

Dutch food is designed to fill you up and let me be the first to say, it does just that. The many famous dishes of the Netherlands include; stampot, which is potatoes, mashed with a kale, endive or sauerkraut and served with smoked sausage or port.
And Hutspot- which is similar as the stamppot but with the addition of carrots, tomatoes, and onions. If you want to try foods other than of Dutch decent, then a wide variety of Turkish and Lebanese snack bars are abundant in the city. Your best bet to save money while still enjoying the best of the Netherlands is to eat at eetcafes, which are cheap pub like establishments. If you decide to go to a “Café” shop, you will find yourself in a pub setting. But no need to fear as they normally sell excellent food and some offer open terraces so you could enjoy the sights while enjoying your food. There is also something called a Grand Café, which offers more space and a more restaurant feel. Read on to find out more about Netherlands tourism.

Netherland Times

Most of the shops in the Netherlands open up at 830AM-530PM. On Thursdays, most will close at 9PM. If you plan to travel to Amsterdam, many of the tourist’s shops and information stations will be open on Sundays. Banks will generally open up from 9AM-4PM. If you plan to go to a museum, be sure to note that they are normally closed on Mondays. Restaurants are open from 11AM-230PM and close for lunch. Then they reopen at 5PM and close at 11PM. If you are looking for nightlife, clubs open at 9PM and normally close at 4AM.

Travel Tip

Netherlands tourism offers alot of great deals for travelers. If you want to see a bundle of museums, I recommend you get a MuseumKarrt from the museums themselves as they will give you access to 400 museums for 30 Euro. Also you could purchase a cultural youth passport from a tourist office for 12.50 Euro which gives discounts to tourist aged 27 and under to museums and events all around the country.

Accomodation & Costs

If you plan on staying in the city you could expect to pay under 50 Euro for a double room in a hotel and 125 Euro for a high class hotel a night. Be sure to bring great walking shoes with tread as many hostels and hotels have steep stairs. Check out the tourist information booth during your stay, as they will have up to date Netherlands tourism costs of accommodations throughout the city.

Here is a list of prices you can expect to pay for some services

Hotel- 50-130 Euro

Canal Boat Tour (Recommended)-10 Euro

Cup of Coffee- 2.50 Euro

Bicycle Rental- 8 Euro Per Day

Although I want to you enjoy your vacation, I also want you to be safe as well. Make sure to watch for pitpocketers which are more than likely going to be in a croweded area. Don't leave expensive items laying around on tables or open to the public. And always lock your bike. I only mention these because these are things I have seen happen to people and I don't want to happen to you.
