Portugal Tourism
Travel to the coast and enjoy Portugal tourism like no one has experienced before. What a beautiful travel destination to visit. Portugal can be considered the calmer version of Spain but it has a strong resemblance to its livelier neighbor. You get an old time feeling when you visit Portugal and you can tell that people take great pride in their culture. I must say that Portugal offers some of the most best tasting coffee you will ever have during your European vacation. Although not the most lively of places to visit in Europe, Portugal has a lot to offer tourist abroad. So join me as we look at Portugal and discover how you could travel Portugal on a budget.
Portugal Accommodations
When you arrive in Portugal, one of the first things you should do is make a stop at the local tourist office. There you will find an abundance of information of accommodations offered around the country. Whenever you decide to book your accommodations, be sure to book far ahead of schedule especially during the summer months because resorts fill up quick. If you plan to camp, this is by far the cheapest option although some of the campgrounds are closed during some seasons. You can find information on campgrounds by getting the Roteiro Campista, which lists up to date information on campgrounds around the country. Another option that you could look at when you are looking for accommodations is to stay at a guesthouse. Most of the guesthouses are family owned and offer cheaper rates than other forms of accommodation. Another option and the one that I recommend is a hostel. Portugal has an abundance of youth hostels available to tourist and rates range from 20-40 Euros a night. This price varies depending on what type of room you want to stay in. Tourist offices will also have information on private rooms, which is another cheap option that you may want to look into. A final option, which may turn out to be a little more expensive, would be to stay at one of the government owned monasteries/castles. These accommodations offer the most spectacular views and will make you feel as if you were in the early 19th century.
Portugal Weather
During the summer months when experiencing Portugal Tourism, you can expect warm and clear days and during these months, Portugal’s coast is filled with tourist. Traveling during the months of April to September, you will experience most of the beautiful summer weather. During the winter months, temperatures get cold and it seems as if it wants to snow but only does so most of the time in the mountains. This type of weather will be experienced during the months of November to March. During these months, you will also experience a lot of rain and it is known by most to be the wet rainy season. If you do plan to travel in the summer, remember to pack for great weather and book accommodations early. The best weather will be found on the coast and it is recommended that you travel during the summer season. During this season, you will find an abundance of activities and tourist to chat with as well.
What To Pack
Below I have created just a short list of items that I believe that you may want to bring with you when you decide to experience Portugal Tourism. None of these items is out of the ordinary and a majority of the time, you will have them already but it is good to have some kind of idea of what to pack before you decide to embark on your trip. 1. Rain Jacket; Preferable more thicker than most rain jackets because this could double as a shield to block the cold air that Portugal could throw at you. 2. Long Pants; Make sure the pants are thick. What I recommend sometimes is you pack long john’s pants to put underneath your jeans to act as a double layer to keep you warm. 3. Rain resistant Shoe’s; Rains can happen at any time, so why not be prepared?
Portugal Activities
One of the more popular activities to participate in when your enjoying tourism in Portugal is to go cycling. Many bike trips are offered to tourist and travel to many of the popular tourist destinations. Hiking is another option as Portugal offers and abundance of trails for you to hike on. Water sports are another big activity in Portugal and include surfing, windsurfing, and canoeing. White water rafting is another fun activity to participate in if you are an avid thrill seeker.
Portugal Currency
Portugal is a part of the European Union so the Portugal currency is the Euro. You can get your money exchanged at many locations throughout the country but keep in mind those banks and exchanges are free to set their own exchange rates and commissions. Your best bet would be too get the Euro from your home bank, as you will avoid unnecessary charges from one of the banks in Portugal.
