So sit back relax and enjoy the great tips that this page has to offer.Albania? What is in Albania? Well, what many people do not know is Tourism in Albania rivals many of Europe’s most sought after destinations. The best part of the tourism there is you could easily survive on a 30-40 Euro a day budget. One thing that I was not aware of when that I would have to pay was an entrance and exit cost. That is right, you have to pay 10 Euro when you arrive and depart Albania. With that being said, Albania is interesting destination and below I have created a reference chart for you to use if you ever travel to this beautiful destination.
Albania Accomodations
As far as accommodations are concerned, the Albanian lodging establishments are normally clean and have most of the modern appliance’s that a lodging establishment would have. But, I will point out that I did say normally so be sure to get as much information as you can from your hotel or hostel before checking in to see if will fit your needs. Another option is camping which is by far one of the cheapest ways to stay. If you do not mind bugs and sleeping in a tent, this is your best bet for saving money.
Albania Activities
There are a couple of activities to do in Albania but you have to remember that this country just came out of communist time’s in the 1990’s so it is in the early stages of development in regards to tourism. You could swim on the coast or rent a bike but a lot of tourism norms will be hard to find here. The heart of Albania is in its hiking. One of the notable things that to do is go to Saranda. Here you could hike around and see the ancient ruins of Butrint. Admission was 700 leke and it was open from 8AM-745PM.
Getting Around
If you wondering about tourism in Albania and getting around, have no fear. Albania has a good transportation system. There are many ways to get around the country and here I will list a couple.
Cars
If you plan to drive in Albania, the best advice that you could get is, don’t. The roads are often too bad to drive on and the local drivers will act as if they are in bumper cars. There is a SIXT car rental in the city of Tirana that you may want to try. They are open from 0800AM-600PM Monday through Friday and the phone number is 00355-68-2068500.
Bus
The bus system is good and many of the buses depart from most towns located in the country. The price to ride on the bus is cheap and you must pay the bus cash collector when you get onboard the bus. The buses depart early in the morning and will run all the way up to nightfall. Since these buses are privately owned, they do not have set hours. However, you should have no problem finding a ride on one, as they are plenty running around the towns.
Train
The train system if also cheap compared too many of other European countries. However, do not expect a lot when you riding on one. They often have broken windows and no toilets. The good thing about these trains is that some will take you on very scenic routes that will be sure to be a treat.
Tourism in Albania has come a long way and is still, till this day, getting better at accommodating tourist.
Sigths To See
Tourism in Albania has many sights for tourist to enjoy but here are a few that you should definitely see when you visit this beautiful country:
National Historic Museum: Here you will find archaeological treasures that date all the way back to 100,000 BC. In addition, a historic communist section is in this museum illustrating Albania’s communist past. The cost to attend is 300 leke and it is open from Tuesday to Saturday 9AM-1PM and 5PM-7PM.
National Art Gallery: This gallery has a large amount of paintings dating back to the 13th century. The cost to attend is 100 leke Monday through Friday.
Albania Currency
Albania currency is another independent of the European Union. They use what is called the leke. This currency comes in denominations of 100, 200, 500, and 1000 leke. You can pay for virtually pay for anything with leke but, some places do quote prices in Euro.If you prefer to use travelers check's, you will find out fairly quickly that many establishments accept large hotels, will take them. Most of the hotels also accept credit cards but other than that, most businesses do not. If you plan to use your credit card, keep in mind that you may inccur international transactions fee's. Be sure to talk with your bank prior to your vacation to see just how much you will pay. To keep costs low, I reccommend you use your credit card as little as possible so you will not incurr high fee's from your bank. You will be able to find alot of currency exchanges around towns in Albania and most offer fair to good rates.
Business Hours
As far as tourism in Albania and business hours, I found that banks where open from 9AM-230PM. Bars 830AM-100AM. Restaurants from 830AM-11PM and shops from 8AM-7PM.
Things to Know
In regards to tourism in Albania, the crime rate in Albania is not high but they still happen. Pickpockets, just like in any other European Country, are present and frequently visit places that are highly populated with tourists. Just like with any other place you may visit, be sure to be vigilant of anything that may seem strange. I had no troubles while I visited and found a lot of Albanian’s to be generous and polite. However, I was always vigilant to avoid trouble.
If you are traveling to Albania from the United States, then you do not need a visa albania. However, you will still have to pay 10 Euro when you arrive and depart, as this is a tax. This is what makes tourims in Albania so great.
