Tourism in Latvia
When you experience tourism in Latvia, you will find that this country is well known for its backpacking adventure’s. This country offers backpackers miles and miles of backpacking adventures filled with forests that will astound you. Latvia also offers tourist bustling beach towns and beautiful castles for you to explore. This country just joined the European Union although, it is still has yet to fully integrate into the Unions standards. The country is definitely on its way to becoming one of the most toured travel destinations in Europe. Latvia does offer tourist the most fun that you could experience while traveling Europe and at cheap rates. So join me as we look at tourism in Latvia and see how you could travel Europe cheap.
Latvia Accommodations
Accommodations in Latvia are similar to those of other European countries. You can find an abundance of hostels available to you at relatively decent rates. However, since Latvia is becoming more and more popular over the years, the demand for hostels is creeping slightly higher than the supply of them. If you want to book a hostel, make sure you book far in advance, as the hostels will fill up quickly. Especially if you plan to vacation during the summer. The cheapest hostels that offer the most private accommodations can cost from 25 Lats to 40 Lats. A money saving tip for you would be to travel during the winter season, as rates for accommodations could be as much as 20% less for a room. If you want an even better option, you may look to stay on the outside of the city of Riga as you could find a room with excellent quality and privacy for as little as 15 Lats. Hostels are spread across the country but can be scarce in some areas so make sure to do your homework and find the best spot that suite’s you.
Latvia Activities
With miles and miles of forest, tourism in Latvia is one of the ideal places for outdoor activities to include camping, hiking, and picnicking. One of the more recommended activities to do is go to Sigulda. Here is where you can fulfill the inner thrill seeker in you as they offer many activities that include river rafting, bungee jumping, and downhill skiing. There are a couple of hostels in Latvia, specifically Riga, that offer an abundance of adventure packages for tourist and often at discounted rates. If you prefer the beach, you will find Latvia’s coastlines an exciting place to explore as many activities are offered on the coast such as kite boarding and windsurfing.
Latvia Currency
Latvia joined the European Union a while back but has yet to fully integrate the Euro. Latvia currency, the Lat, is relatively stronger than the U.S. dollar and it can be compared to the British pound. Finding money exchange centers will not be a problem in this country and most large banks will cash cashier’s checks. When traveling, be sure when you decide to eat at a restaurant, the current standard tip is 10% of what your total cost is of the food you ordered. I always recommend you get your money exchanged at your bank, as you will avoid transaction fee’s that can add up quickly.
Latvia Capitol
The Latvia capitol is Riga and is the center of tourism in Latvia. Here is where you will find the most Latvia has to offer to tourist. The city is situated on the Duagava River and has an Old Town, which is one of the more popular tourist area’s to travel too. In addition, here is where you will find an abundance of tourist office’s that will aid you in your travels. I recommend visiting one as it has the most up to date travel deals and discounts that you could get.
