Travel Czech Republic

When I travel Czech Republic, I always seem to have a great time and it is hard to believe that this beautiful country has only been around since 1993. The former Czechoslovakia is nowhere to be found in this tourism rich destination. When you travel Czech Republic, you will enjoy the many castles and chateaux showing the prestigious past of some the Czechs wealthiest families. The Czech people are very proud of their heritage, but are adjusting well to the newly unified European ideals. When you travel, I recommend you visit Prague, which is one the world’s most beautiful and cultured destinations with streets filled with music and arts.

Welcome To The Czech Republic

Now lets go ahead and take at traveling throughout Czech Republic and see how you could travel Czech Republic on a budget and in style.

Czech Republic Accomodations

Accommodations in the Czech Republic are a little different from any other European destination you may travel. When you arrive at you, accommodation establishment you will be required to show your passport. This should not be a problem since you had to show your passport when entering at the airport and it should be in a spot where you could access it easily. A strange thing that some establishments may do is ask you to take your passport for the duration of your stay. This has happened to me and let me tell you, I was reluctant to do so but in the end, I complied. At the end of your stay, do not forget to get it back. If you do not want to give your passport to your hotel reception then there are accommodations in the Czech Republic that do not require you give them your passport. If you prefer to stay in the hostel, you will find that the prices are relatively cheap but I want to point out that if you stay in Prague, the prices will be a little more expensive. Dorm beds in hostels located in Prague can cost upwards of 400-420 Czech Crown. If you book anywhere else outside of the city, this price goes down to 300-360 Czech Crown. The great thing about the Czech Republic is there are many different types of hostels, which vary in costs. The cheapest would be what the Czech call a tourist hostel. Prices in this type of hostel run from 175-300 Czech Crown and only come with the bare basics for accommodation. You can get a private room in these hostels as well but the price goes up from 300-450 Czech Crown. Hotels in Prague and Brno are expensive and I recommend if you plan to stay in the city Prague, try to stay in a hostel.

Getting Around

When you travel Czech Republic, you will see it has many transportation options. There are many ways to get around the country and here I will list a couple.

Bus

By far the most popular means of getting around the Czech Republic is by bus. Busses tend to be faster, cheaper, and more comfortable than most trains. Buses tend to sometimes leave early from destinations so make sure you at least arrive 20 minutes early before your bus is scheduled to leave. There are two ways to pay for your bus ticket. Either go to the main station and book your ticket through a computerized system or stand in line and pay the bus driver when you arrive at the bus.

Cars

Most of the main car rental chains that are offered around the world are offered in the city of Prague, Czech Republic’s capital. If you want to save money on renting, you may want to look at renting from local car rental businesses but keep in mind, most of the staff may not speak English. You could expect roughly 800 Czech Crown a day, which includes unlimited mileage.

Train

Czech Republic rail system offer more efficient means of transportation. The cost of a ticket depends on how far you are planning to travel. Tickets can range from 64-424 Czech Crown. This all depends on how far you are traveling. If you plan to stay within the Czech Republic, you may want to look into getting a Czech Flexipass, which will allow you to travel for three to eight days within a two-week period of unlimited travel. The cost of the pass ranges from 78-139 U.S. dollars. To get around, write down your destination and the date and time you would like to travel. This is because many of the ticket agents at train stations do not speak English. Also, be sure to watch out for conductors. They often try to intimidate foreigners and will try to make you pay a fine. Do not pay any fine unless you first get a receipt.

Sights To See

When you travel Czech Republic, you will see it has many sights for tourist to enjoy but here are a few that you should definitely see when you visit this beautiful country

Prague Castle: This is by far the most favored tourist destination. This is a huge castle, which has a lot to do with Czech Republic history. The cast is open from 9AM-5PM from April-October and 9AM-4PM from November-March. The cost to enter the castle is 110 Czech Crown.

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Loreta: This is an interesting place to visit, as it is a replica of Santa Casa, which is the house of St. Anne, which was the mother of the Virgin Mary.

Czech Republic Activities

The Czech Republic offers an abundance of activities, which include hiking canoeing and rafting which are most popular with tourists. The country is perfectly outfitted for cycling though and I see many tourists passing up this wonderful activity.

Busniess Hours and Customs

If you stay in central Prague, you will find that most businesses stay open on Saturdays and Sundays. This is reversed if you plan to travel along the outside of the city.

Shops 845AM-5PM Monday to Friday, 830AM-Noon on Saturday

Bars 11AM-11PM daily

Banks 9AM-430PM Monday to Friday

When you travel Czech Republic, you are required to have a valid passport. If you are from the U.S. or any country that is a part of the European Union, then you do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. The custom agents in the Czech Republic are more strict than any other European destination that I have traveled too especially if you have something that may seem suspect. Be prepared to be stopped if you have anything that may be questionable.
