Capital of Iceland

Travel to the capital of Iceland and see the wonders this cold country has to offer. The one thing that many of you who know anything about Iceland would probably know it because of the volcanoes’. However, this should not scare you as the country offers many geothermal springs and beautiful landscape’s that inspire many forms of nature to grow. In addition, the country is full of waterfalls and spouting springs that will be sure to give you a treat. If see anything in Iceland, your number one destination should be the Blue Lagoon as it offers you the clearest and most beautiful waters you will ever see. You will be able to tour comfortably with about 4000 Iceland Krona a day.

Welcome To Iceland

Join me as we take a look at Iceland and see how you could travel to this destination on a budget and in style.

Accommodations Icleand

So, you have arrived in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, and you are looking for a place to stay. You are in luck, although not well known to many tourists, Iceland offers many accommodations for each individual tourist to fit any of your needs. If you are planning to camp, this is by far the cheapest way to stay in Iceland as it is…..FREE. That is right; you will not have to pay any money to camp as long as it is not on private land or on a national park. Your best bet is to go to the local tourist office and find designated campgrounds to camp in. If you do not want to camp, you could maybe look into staying at a guesthouse or a Gistihemilid. These could range from a private house to a small motel. Some of the guesthouses do offer some sleeping sheets or sleeping bags but you will have to check with your accommodation specialist, as they will have exactly what they will offer. The guesthouses are normally open from May to September and to save even more money, it is recommended that you bring your own sleeping sheets and pillows in order to save money from renting them from the front desk. If you prefer to stay in a hostel (which is recommended) than I suggest that you look into the many hostels that Iceland has to offer. It is important to note that these accommodations will offer most of the amenities that you would expect from a normal motel. Find out some activites you could participate in below, in the capital of Iceland.

Getting Around

There are many ways to get around when you are traveling to Iceland. Below is a list of options that you will have when you arrive to this beautiful country.

Bus

If you plan on riding on a bus, a good travel tip I like to give is make sure you travel during the months of June to August. Because the roads can be treacherous, many of the bus companies shutdown during the winter months. You can find discount bus passes for long distant buses by going to www.bsi.is.

Bicycle

Since most of the time the weather is too treacherous to travel on, bicycles are not really recommended unless the weather conditions are excellent. If you find yourself caught in bad weather while riding your bike, don’t fear, you could always put your bike on a bus. The cost to rent a bicycle can cost up to 1700 Iceland Krona per day.

Cars

To rent a car in Iceland, you must be at least 20 years old. Keep in mind that renting cars in this country is expensive. You could find more information on renting cars from the local tourists offices located throughout the country.

Sights To See

In the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, there are many sites’ to see when visiting Iceland and most of which are sure to be a traveler’s treat. Here are a couple of sites that you may want to travel too.

Saga Museum: Travel to this museum and see the best of Iceland’s history illustrated with silicon models. The museum is open from 10AM-6PM every day from April to September. The cost to enter the museum is 900 Krona for adults and 700 Krona for kids.

National Museum: Here is where you would go if you would want to see Iceland’s history and culture. The museum also houses an old carved 13th century door, which was made by one of Iceland’s most famous artist. The cost of admission is 600 Krona for adults and free for kids that are under 18 years old.

Iceland Activities

If you are planning to travel to the capital of Iceland, the best months that are recommended for your travels range from June to August. You will find the most activities to participate in during these months. In addition, the best hiking can be found during these months. If you have enough time, I recommend that you take a trip on a boat and go whale watching or go horseback riding on the coast and watch the sunset. These activities are relatively inexpensive and will not break your wallet.

Iceland Visa

As long as you have a valid passport and you are traveling from the United States or Great Britain, you do not need to have a visa. You only need a valid passport. Other countries’ require a visa before entering the country.

Iceland Business Hours

The business hours in Iceland are stable and Icelanders are prompt on opening and closing of businesses. If you plan to go shopping, the shops are open from 9AM-6PM Monday through Friday. The Café’s and Bars are open from 10AM-6PM Monday through Friday. Bars stay open until around 1AM.
